Fortis Institute is a private post-secondary for-profit educational institution which has 35 physical campuses and an online campus. Depending on the location of the campus, the school is also referred as Fortis College or the Fortis College of Nursing. It is owned and operated by Education Affiliates. It was founded in 1969 as the Bohecker College, a sister school of Centerville, Ohio Pets Technical Institute.
The first campus to use the Fortis College name is the one located in Phoenix, Arizona. The expansion of Fortis College has been made possible largely through the purchase of existing schools in addition to the establishment of Fortis campuses.
Fortis Institute is accredited by one of several accrediting bodies including the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC), Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), Accrediting Commission of the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET), and the Accrediting Commission of the Council on Occupational Education (COE). Areas of study offered include healthcare, nursing, medical, dental, business, information technology, massage, cosmetology, and skilled trade such as welding and HVAC. Fortis College online offers associate degree programs that are especially suitable for adult learners and active-duty service personnel.

Fortis College Online has military-friendly programs. It is a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity College (SOC) Consortium which is a group of colleges and universities dedicated to helping service members and their dependendents earn college degrees. Fortis Online is approved for Veterans Assistance or G.I. Bill Funding as well as the Department of Defense Tuition Assistance Program. It has a comprehensive transfer credit policy which facilitates acceptance of prior coursework from other colleges; AP, CLEP and DANTES examinations; and military training and experience credits.
